191,000 dead in Syria prompts Obama to think of an idea that could be the start of a plan to commence contemplating the beginning of...whatever

This is an interesting read at the Middle East Eye site:

Hamas Executes Gazans

Photo: Reuters

It is a troubling picture but the world needs to know what it is up against. There is a case to be made that Hamas is even more monstrous than Islamic State (IS) because it conspires to have its own people killed in order to advance a political agenda and then, when that does not work, starts murdering them itself. An Israeli Arab: "I Feel a Part of this State"

The Israeli village of Daburiyya

Here is an interesting article by David Horowitz in The Times of Israel. Professor Ahmed Eid's attitude towards the State of Israel sounds very similar to most - but not all - the Israeli Arabs I met in Israel back in January 2012:

Pierre Ryckmans (aka Simon Leys): 1935-2014

The title of Ian Baruma's article about the life and work of Pierre Ryckmans in The New York Review of Books is "The Man Who Got it Right". That pretty well says it all:

My indebtedness to Pierre Ryckmans/Simon Leys comes at the end of this article I wrote about China's 1979 Democracy Wall for Quadrant magazine in 2012:

Know Thy Enemy

The following article for Al Jazeera, by Richard Falk, Professor of International Law at Princeton, encapsulates the growing alliance between the Western Left and Islamo-fascism. If we turn everything Professor Falk believes on its head we might begin to approach the truth. Hamas is a terrorist outfit that has commandeered Gaza for its own apocalyptic and millennialist purposes. Every death in Gaza during Operation Defensive Shield is its entire responsibility. Gazans (and Israelis) die so Professor Falk can spout the Muslim Brotherhood's propaganda.
