But we had Russell Brand on our side!

Russell Brand - Political thinker

Here is a nice piece by Brendon O'Neil in the Spectator online: http://blogs.spectator.co.uk/coffeehouse/2015/05/the-biggest-loser-of-the-night-russell-brand/ And here is a little piece I wrote about the Nowhere Men earlier in the year: https://quadrant.org.au/opinion/qed/2015/01/john-lennon-nowhere-man/

In-Out Referendum in UK on EU by the end of 2017

On January 23, 2013, Prime Minister Cameron promised the people of the United Kingdom an in-out referendum on membership in the EU. He has been re-elected.

The leftist British newspaper the Independent might well have won its battle against Ukip but it has lost the war against the Tories: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/generalelection/live-general-election-2015-polls-latest-results-vote-10230994.html

The May 2015 Quadrant is out!

I have an article in the May 2015 edition of Quadrant titled "Wiser Men on the Iranian Deal" but it is, as yet, behind a subscriber wall. I received my copy of the magazine today and have already read Giles Auty's article titled "Brian Sewell and the Rise of State-Approved Art". Auty is one of my favourite writers on art and his current effort does not disappoint.

Salman Rushdie: "You can find shame in every house"

They put this guy on our stamps? Mr Anti-bourgeois-bohemian-socialist himself!

No more will I attempt to struggle through Peter Carey's wordy tosh. In truth, he probably did his best work in the advertising industry while still a young bloke. But now this! As an Australian I find Carey's anti-PEN dribble rather embarrassing. As a member of the civilised world I would have to say, well, ditto: http://www.news.com.au/entertainment/books-magazines/australian-author-peter-carey-protests-charlie-hebdo-award-in-new-york/story-fn9412vp-1227323974792
