I read a lot of Ian McEwan's at one point, and my feeling was that WE would one day be judged for promoting his work as "heavyweight". McEwan linking himself to a genuine heavyweight, Franz Kafka, is seriously not fair to Kafka. Kafka, more than any other writer I know, was prescient about the oligarchical state swallowing up capitalism/reality/individuality et al.
