Labor Opposition Leader Bill Shorten at a Welcome to Strangers ceremony in Rome
This is Australian (or might we say "Australian") Bill Shorten's latest Big Idea: at the start of every parliamentary year there should be a "Welcome to strangers" ceremony performed by people with an Australian Aboriginal lineage. The problem, surely, is that Australian parliamentarians are neither "strangers" in our wonderful nation nor "strangers" to our splendid Westminster-style political system. Certainly Bill Shorten and his bohemian socialist colleagues are strange, but that is another matter.
